School Travel Plan for Malsch
- Owner City of Malsch
- Project period 10/2012 - 08/2013
School travel plans involve mapping out the best way to walk or cycle to school. They are developed with children’s safety on the way between home and school as the overriding objective. BrennerPlan GmbH was commissioned with the fundamental review and evaluations as well as drawing up of an appropriate school travel plan, while at the same time ensuring that all stakeholders are involved in the process. The school plan has been established for the primary and middle schools in Malsch. To achieve the greatest possible acceptance for the school plan, public participation of all concerned and involved groups took place from the onset and throughout the planning process. For an intensive exchange of information between relevant authorities, parents, teachers as well as the planner, a working group was set up which held and organized regular workshops. To establish a detailed knowledge of the current routes to school, children and parents were interviewed with the help of a questionnaire. Based on the questionnaire analysis and comprehensive inventory of all traffic-related conditions, the current way to school were mapped with all unsafe spots, shortcomings, potentials and action requirements in a so called “School-Path Chart”, based on which the “School Travel Plan” emerged in the form of recommended routes for parents from their homes to school. In addition, an “Action Plan” was developed. It pointed out structural or traffic regulation measures that help to improve the way to school situation.
